About

The story of my father's life and death still haunts me, as an unclosed chapter, especially because the unresolved issues continue to be kept alive in the news: my father has been euthanized against his will at a time when euthanasia was illegal; since then, the Supreme Court made it illegal and Canada has started to "assist" people in their suicide at a larger rate than countries that had legalized it earlier. My father passed away during the SARS epidemic and issues I noticed witht he healthcare system back then have been exacerbated by the COVID crisis and are still ill-defined and implicitly unresolved. My father had filed a human rights complaint for ethnic discrimination at work and, while I had been dismissive of it while he was alive, I have by now observed such discrimination increasing, making my ostrich-inspired strategy of ignoring it and marching forward quite inadequate. Last but not least, there is a serious access to justice problem in Canada for many of those who endure discrimination and describing issues with our "justice" system should help in making life easier for others.
